feeling a bit like claire on modern family

There are things that I choose not to write about on this blog that I sometimes wish I could.

{I guess I should start a new anonymous blog for those things, right?!}

This is one of those things, but it is almost too funny for me to not write about.

First of all, this is how I am writing this blog post.

It has nothing to do with what I am writing about, but I thought it was funny (and cute).

If I am “working” on the computer and baby girl is awake this is where she wants to be…”momma lap”.

Anyway, this morning I am totally feeling like Claire on Modern Family.

You know the episode where Phil goes to the basketball game with Luke, Manny, and Gloria. Claire sees them on TV and tries to call him. He gets his phone out of his pocket, looks at it, and he sends her to voicemail…all while she watches it on TV.

Yeah, that one.

Ryan has been out of town since Tuesday morning.

And, he is working on a Saturday.

I was cranky and not feeling well on Thursday night when we last talked and we did not get a chance to talk at all on Friday.

So, this morning I texted him on both of his phones, left him a voicemail, and then got on Facebook.

And, there I see that he has made a new friend.

So, he’s making new friends on Facebook, but can’t reply to texts and voicemails from his wife?!

I messaged him that sentiment on Facebook.

And, here is his reply.

I guess he’s been having some technical difficulties.

At least he wasn’t kissing Gloria, right?!

And, we did get to iChat.

home is…technical difficulties.

Wow! Reminds one of “When you assume you make an ass of U and me.” It is interesting though, that unlike the “Field of Dreams” line–build it and they will come–with instant communication info tech everywhere these days, folks don’t necessarily USE it all the time. Perhaps with all do-dads and ADD life style, we have created an artificial state of busyness.

The fact is that with ALL the technology that he does have available to him you would think I would be able to get in touch with him (or he with me) without having to use social media.
    Thank goodness for Facebook, though.
I worry when I don’t hear from him.
What if there had been an actual emergency?

Your family does have extra challenges with all the work-travel- extended-separations… certainly more than many families. I am going to guess that your blogpost resonated with most people who read it, however technologically adept or challenged they may be. It’s scary to be out of touch… but it’s going to happen… sounds like you are resourceful enough to figure out how to do an endrun on social media that are not, however temporarily, doing what they are supposed to do. Glad you figured out a solution!

    Yes, it can be scary.
I wasn’t scared this time and usually am not when he travels for work.
I’ve been scared when he is out in the middle of nowhere hunting and I haven’t heard from him, though.
I found it humorous, more than anything.
I always find it funny when I can’t reach him on his cell phones (live, or via text) when he has TWO!
I very rarely use his “work” phone because it is just that, his “work” phone, but last night he told me to contact him on that phone because his iphone battery was dying. I would have assumed that his iphone would have been fully charged by morning.
So, I was confused because I was supposed to contact him on a blackberry that he is now telling me has been replaced by a new blackberry, etc. etc.
    Whatever…he’ll be home tonight.
